The Amazing World Of Teak Wood

Teak wood is an exotic kind of timber which can be found in Southeast Asia and is very famous and became the favorite material of several furniture makers due to its special features for instance as grade A wood, it is very resilient, and will be able to withstand weather changes having to break down their wood grains and fibers, it is resistant to insect attacks, has a lovely finish and can be maintained easily.

These special features are also the reasons why teak woods are the most sought after materials to be transformed into several types of furniture. Teak furniture is recognized as one of the most expensive type of wood furniture and yet it has a high demand for it.

The main supplier of teak wood in the world market are the Asian countries like Myanmar and Indonesia. In the past Philippines and India are among the main countries in the industry of teak, however, because of the mishandled of the plantation of the tree and the illegal cutting to convert it into teak furniture it become rare in the mentioned nation and is now considered endangered. This is the reason why governments have placed strict laws regarding the plantation and harvesting of the said tree in order to save its existence.

Now teak is grown on plantation to provide a regular source of that wood that will not affect the environment. The biggest exporter of teak are Myanmar and Indonesia. The plantation in the mentioned countries grows several type of teaks. They let the tree mature before cutting it and then replaced it with a younger teak in order to keep the supply of the teak material abundant. It is good news for the manufacturer of teak outdoor furniture for they don't have to worry about anything since they will surely have the supply that they need.

There are lots of people who desire and love to have teak furniture because of the sturdiness and beauty. That is definitely well worth the amount you will need to pay in order to have one. There is no need for you to worry about maintenance since this type of wood is maintenance free. It's because of its high natural content which makes it resistant against termites and weather. Thus it is rot free and usually last more than century. Although it might change its color from golden honey brown color to silver gray patina it does not affect the quality of the furniture. It is the normal process that wood should undergo. For some the silver gray color is quite lovely so they keep it that way. Others make use of teak oil in order to maintain its golden honey color.

Decorators? Problem with an asian-themed living room!?

I want an asian-themed living room, but there are furniture items that don't fit and can't be removed. Several pieces are perfect with a dark teak-type look, but then there is a heavy upright box piano in a ruddy-toned wood and a permanent wall mirror with an oak frame.

The dark teak furniture came from an asian furnishings store: hutch, two end tables, long coffee table and small (2-seat) sofa. I have a Japanese room divider screen that has the shoji screen look but the wood is light.

Can an asian theme be pulled off with these problems? Please help!
