Portable Air Conditioner Btu - What Exactly Is It and Which Portable Air Conditioner to Buy
If are you wondering what a BTU is, one BTU is the amount of energy needed to heat one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit. In terms of air conditioners, BTU refers to the amount of thermal energy an air conditioner can remove from an area. When choosing a portable air conditioner, you have to know how big your room is. Plus, contrary to popular belief, the higher BTU level does not determine which air conditioner is the best. Instead, the BTU levels need to correspond to the size of the room you are placing the portable air conditioner in. For example, if you placed a portable air conditioner with a 16,000 BTU level into a very small room, the temperature in the room would drop too quickly prohibiting the air conditioner from dehumidifying the air. Ultimately, this small room would be either too cold or too humid.
With my experience in purchasing several different portable air conditioners, I found that the Amcor Portable Air Conditioners are the best in quality and price. The particular one I have is Amcor PLM14000EH 14000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner with 4,300-BTU Heat which has the patented evaporative booster technology. Powerful, efficient, and simple are the three words I like to refer to when I describe this product. The room I have this air conditioner in is about 400 sq feet, and it takes seconds for an uncomfortably hot room to transform into a pleasantly cool room with one flick of the air conditioner's power switch. However, what is really neat about this product is that it uses the water it extracts from the warm, sticky air to cool itself, making it more efficient. Another nice feature is the remote control that enables you to control the room's temperature and the air conditioner's three speeds. The only drawbacks I can comment on are that it needs to be near a window (to vent) and the product's water tank has to be emptied before it can start again. Overall, the drawbacks of this machine are quickly forgotten once you are relaxing in your new COOL room during a hot July afternoon.
