Uses And Care Of The Drill Bits
Drill bits, the most important part of any drill machine is used to bore cylindrical holes in different materials like metal, wood, plastics, etc. As per your requirement you can make the choice of drill bits. Although, most of these are abundantly available in the market with eye catching price tags, the decision should be made based on several factors.
This article discusses these aspects in detail.If you are looking for a few quick useful tools a set of steel twisted bits and a few masonry bits would be enough but if you are working on the floor then you would require bits which are larger and or designed for a specific purpose/material.
We come across many types of bits designed for a specific purpose. One such bit is the steel twist bits. The twist bits can be used for wood, plastic and similar material and are also useful while drilling metal sheets. The twist steel bits are mostly made up of either High Speed Steel or Carbon Steel. Both the drill bits serve a different purpose like the carbon steel drill bit is used for drilling wood and not metal.
The steel twisted bits coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN) are also available. These bits exhibit a typical gold like color. This coating provides the bit more hardness and also a self-lubricating property. This bit should only be used for drilling metal and not any other material. As these bits are thin and brittle Special care should be taken when using the smallest. Always hold the drill square to the work and apply only light pressure when drilling.
You can use a drill sharpener, a grindstone jig or an oilstone to do this for sharpening the blades. Sharpening the blades or drilling areas regularly keeps the bits in shape and hence is cost effective. But while sharpening the twist bits special care should be taken as titanium nitride coating can be destroyed. By forming a correct angle at the tip while drilling you can extend the life of your bits.

What is the best way to sand down and smooth parts that have tight spots?
Ok I want to polish some car parts mostly aluminum and prep some for powder coating. Some parts have paint on them or are far from smooth. Sanding down larger flat areas is a peace of cake with a sanding wheel on a drill. I am having trouble with a lot of the really tight spots and do not know how to sand them to a high quality. So for sanding tight spots on metal parts what is the best way to do this? Sand blaster? Dremal tools? or any other methads? I need to be able to use different grit to really prep the part to a smooth finish before polsihing. The polishing part shouldnt be a problem, but for this question I want to keep it only to the point of preping before actually polishing a part. Any Ideas or suggests, what is most efficient? easy? cheapest? pros and cons of each? I dont want to spend more then a few hundred, besides that im lookin for whatever works best, any suggestions or info would be great, Thanks
I own a dremal and use it for many fine crafting jobs with wood and metals...I would think that a dremel with the right sander bit would do the job....those single bits are too expensive to buy the wrond one and have the metal chew it up!!So I would just look on the back of the bit package and it should tell you what it's best used for...ex: wood, metal, etc...
