Why do my hands turn a red/purple color when I am cold?

When I am cold I get these little red/purple colored lines on my hands, and arms,and the areas of skin without the lines are yellow/white color. This is not a very bright color,but faint. The lines are about the same size of the veins on my hands. Also, my veins are very apparent on my hands, and if you push on them you can feel them.I do not know if this is natural or something more serious. So, why does this happen? Is it serious?
