Cordless Tools - Working Wisely and Safely with Wireless Wonders
It's a little like stating the obvious but there are many practical benefits of working with cordless tools. Whether it is drilling high up on scaffolding or sawing on your work bench, not having to worry that the cords and wires may not be long enough to reach your work area, is a definite benefit.
A drilling job that needs to be conducted on a ladder becomes so much easier using a cordless drill, with no cables and wires dangling precariously around the rungs of the ladder and no need to readjust your step to untangle cables, eliminating potential hazards and unnecessary risks.
Working in a home with children becomes automatically safer with no trailing cables for the kids to trip over and hurt themselves.
The freedom of movement provided by cordless tools can essentially make the working environment safer and cleaner. Whilst these wireless tools are not particularly new on the market, improving technology has made a vast difference to their efficiency and performance.
Perhaps one of the main grumbles against cordless tools in recent years has been the battery life and charging times but these have both been vastly improved with the aid of the lithium-ion batteries.
The variety of tools that are now cordless and extremely versatile has increased greatly in the last few years also. Let's take a quick look at some of the tools now available in the cordless ranges:-
- Cordless Drills – There are a huge amount of cordless drills on the market for pretty much all drilling of your requirements and tasks.
- Impact Drivers – Including angled impact drivers that allow you to get to and work in those most inaccessible areas.
- Cordless Saws – Including jigsaws, circular saws, reciprocating saws, band saws and chainsaws.
- Angle Grinders
- Auto Feed Screwdrivers
- Planers
- Wrenches
- Staplers
- Cordless Shear
So, as you can see from the extensive list above, whatever job that needs undertaking, there is likely to be a cordless tool to fit the bill.
With batteries now lasting much longer, confidence is increased that a job can be calculated and completed based on battery life and charge times.
If you are a solo worker doing odd jobs around the house or for your own business or if you are part of a larger team and workforce, then using and having your own cordless tools is the logical next step.

I think we just did this last week, but what the heck.
Starting with nothing, a six-foot step ladder, 25' measuring tape, pencil, blue "painter's tape", set of screwdrivers, 12 to 18 volt cordless driver drill, about a dozen-bit set of twist drills, 2" angled sash (paint)brush, 10" adjustable ("Crescent") wrench, 16 oz. hammer with a "wrecking" claw, 14 pt. full-size crosscut handsaw, 8" electrician's pliers, 3/8" drive socket set and ratchet handle, and the thing that makes a lump under me if I fall asleep on the couch, a Leatherman multitool.
