Garage Door Issues
Overhead garage doors have more components than any other door in the house, and periodic maintenance is necessary to keep them functioning smoothly and to eliminate potential problems before they become major headaches. A quick scan of your overhead garage door will, in all likelihood, make you see the causes to be one of these. If you discover that the tracks are not parallel, use a wrench to loosen the hold of the bracket and then gently tap them back till they are fitted properly.
After the setting has been changed, the brackets should be tightened. Cleanse the tracks from the inside and spray silicone lubricant on it. A braided cable is specifically used to couple heavy duty springs to the door. This adds more fluidity to the movement of the door.
If the springs are adjusted correctly, the spring tension will keep the door in place when the bottom of the door is within three feet of the ground. If it is pushed beyond the height of three feet, the door will slowly slide upwards on its own. If you wish to readjust the spring, lubricate and check the functioning of the other components first.
The braided lift cable has an S hook which needs to be readjusted for the torsion spring. There is a sequence of holes located on top of the door in a bracket in which the hook goes. The door needs to be lifted to a certain height and clamps or blocks can be used to keep it in placed. You have to shift the hooks in front to increase the tension but both the cables should be equally adjusted.
The adjustment of the torsion springs is possible using an iron bar which goes into a slot at the end of the spring. This operation isn't very safe due to the excessive tension in the spring. The torsion spring adjustment is best left to a professional.
