Dremel Cordless Rotary tool
When it comes to rotary power tools nothing beats Dremel. They are one of the leading brands and trusted by most hobbyist and artists around the world. Rotary tools are very similar to a hand drill, infact it's the miniature version of a hand drill. To operate a hand drill you need both your hands to hold and carry its weight and are not advisable to use in drilling very small parts and also are limited only to drilling holes. Moving to Alaska, Do you have to pay duty/ taxes on power tools. Such as tablesaw, compresers, nailguns, etc.?
I am moving to Alaska, going threw British Columbia. I know about ciggerettes, guns,plants, I also know you can take your personal items such as camping equit, cameras clothing etc, I perchasced the 2007 Milepost travel guide. And thats what got me wondering. It mentioned the above items, but it does not say anything about construction tools. Am I going to have a duty tax on my tools? I know this sounds crazy but I dont want to be surprised by a man in a red blazer with kneehigh boots with yellow stripes on his pants, telling me if I want to keep my shoptools I have to pay him money to keep them. Becuase its his duty to tell me I have to pay my duty. Or threw them in the dumpster so he can load them up and take them to his shop when he gets off duty. I know I am being funny, But I seriously need to know this answer. Thank You for any help you can give me.
No. No duty. Be prepared at the Canadian border though to spend some time and do some explaining. When they find out you are travelling to Alaska they will take you into an office and ask you some questions. Here are some of the ones I was asked: How much tread is on your tires? Do you have a job in Alaska? Housing? How much money do you have with you/in the bank/available on your credit card? When was your cars last tune up? Do you have a spare tire?
They want to make sure you wont get stranded in Canada and become a burden on their country.
A word of advice: In parts of B.C. and the Yukon territory there are only two types of gas: unleaded and diesel. The gas doesn't have an octane rating. My US Ford Explorer couldn't take the lower octane and began to sputter. I limped along a hundred miles until I came to a store selling STP gas treatment and added two bottles. It fixed the problem until I gassed up again. So I learned to add an octane booster everytime I gassed up. When I gassed up with Alaskan gas the problem went away and never returned. Also the diesel nozzles are right next to the unleaded and they will both fit your gas hole. I never used the wrong one but from the signs I read reading "pumper beware" it's a common occurance.
