Exotic Fruits of The world
When thinking about fruit what are the first types that come into your head, apple, pear maybe banana? Well the reality is that there is a world out there full of crazy and exotic fruits just waiting to be indulged in; this article explores 5 of the most exotic fruits available to you.
- One of my favourite exotic fruits has got to be the Lychee with its spiky exterior and its delicious grape like texture the Lychee has got it all, and is now gradually creeping its way onto markets worldwide, and is even being canned alongside the likes of cherries peaches and other everyday fruit, showing just how popular it's becoming.
- Another fruit growing in popularity in the UK is the Dragon Fruit (also known as Pitaya) was given their nickname because their skin resembles that of dragon's scales. There are several different kinds of dragon fruit but the most common being the red pitaya. Its sweet delicate taste and creamy pulp are what make it so popular to us Brits. In its native countries Juice or wine can be obtained from the fruit, while the flowers can be eaten or used for tea showing how versatile it can be.
- Kumquats or cumquats are small edible fruits resembling oranges, like with most of the fruits in the Citrus family the kumquats are eaten raw. They are often used in marmalade and jelly but are growing ever popular in alcoholic drinks such as liquor. These fruits were introduced to England in 1846 by their native country China, but this doesn't stop them from still being one of the most exotic fruits available to you today.
- Star Fruit or Carambola is bright yellow colour when ripe, and was named star fruit as when you look at its cross section it looks like a little yellow star. This particular fruit is entirely edible even the waxy skin on the outside, the flesh is crunchy, firm, and extremely juicy with the texture being in similar in consistency to grapes. These fruit are particulary high in vitamin C and antioxidants which is one of the reasons they have become so popular in Countries across the globe.
- Finally there is the Guava it's often classed amongst the Super fruits, due to the fact that it contains more than 4 times the vitamin C you would find in an orange and also contains Vitamin A and several other essential nutrients. Guava pulp may be sweet or sour, and varies in colour from off-white to deep pink depending on its species. It is most popular in South American countries but we see it more and more everyday in the UK whether it is used in juices, alcoholic drinks or everyday cooking it is definitely one of the most exotic fruits available to us to date.
