Home AC unit is blwing air, but not cool. I had my Freon checked last yr. Last year was the float switch.?
Is the arm to the float swith supposed to press in contact to turn the AC unit off, or is it supposed to be out? Also, there is frost building up around part of the inside units valve (that is not insulated). Can't afford a repairman, so any help would be outstanding.
My filter is clean, as I keep it changed once a month. The float swith (or whatever it's called) is clipped to my drip pan.
your question is a bit confusing as air conditioners don't have float switch's. make sure your a/c thermostat is NOT turned too low. About a 1/5 of service calls in summer are complicated by trying to get more cold out of an a/c that has a freon leak by turning the thermostat colder/ or to the highest number. A/c have what is called " off cycle defrost" they need some off cycle time to defrost frost build up. Air won't pass thru a frost blocked coil. Try turning unit off for an hour or two in case its frost build up. turn back on and make sure thermostat is only 3/4 of the way on, at most. If you get cooling at first then it fades within an hour the chances are you need a recharge again. by the way, freon doesn't wear out, it leaks out. the leak needs to be found and fixed if you can afford it. good luck. post note## the "thing clipped to drain pan may be the thermostat sensing bulb....
