Bi fold Doors Aren't What You Think They Are
Bi fold Doors from the name itself are folding doors that are generally used for houses with problems in space. In terms of designs, surprisingly these kinds of doors are as versatile in itself that they can be used as French doors, wooden or even in glass. One of the classic uses for these kinds of doors is that they are versatile dividers, agreeable as locker doors or useful in laundry rooms.
If you ask a local salesperson, most bi fold Doors come only in two sections, thus the "bi" as a prefix. But folding doors can also come to as much as four sections, depending on your preference and the use of the door. In aircraft hangars, agricultural buildings or even comfort rooms for ships I occasionally see, these doors are much preferred because they give less stress compared to the typical swing-out door.
For houses, given that a regular French door uses too much space, a folding door is a delight indeed. In addition, once you open the entire folding door, you can see the whole area instantly. Think about the time and energy you save, particularly when your hands are busy with many things or if you need to clutch things with both of your hands.
Bi fold Doors however have folding sections and attachments to both the top and the bottom that you may think they are more irksome to set up in your own home. But as a matter of fact, it doesn't take a genius in wood works in order to find out how to set them up appropriately. What you must do is to follow the set-up manual assiduously and watch where you place the screws in order to avoid messing it all up. After that-you are set to go.
A household bi-fold door by the way is different from an agricultural or aircraft hangar bi-fold door. A household bi-fold fold vertically in half when you open it, whereas an aircraft hanger folds horizontally, like a garage door, only it does not fold completely but is somewhat angled to avoid dust or snow accumulation.
Again, you can find bi-folds for the typical house in French doors, wooden or glass. If you also think that they aren't as stylish as swinging or sliding doors, then better think again. One popular use of these doors is for creating a likable division between your dining and living room. Many houses have adjacent dining area and living room, and at times allow an open entrance for accessing each room to and fro. This is also mainly true with a bedroom to its balcony, or a living room to a terrace. Such connected rooms if we just think artistically could actually welcome a good accent. With what else? None other than bi-fold.
One more thing, we all suffer from the difficulty of moving a large fixture to the other room because the door is just very small. Bi fold Doors for that matter, other than looking decorative and serving as a useful space-saver can be easily folded in order to make room for a great table. For this matter, aren't bi-folds a rather practical choice for two reasons but in a price of one?

I have fitted the top runner rail and followed all instructions putting the pivots in place on the doors.

With NO offense meant at all; I suggest any bifold door include both a top and bottom track.
Also the action of any bifold to be successful; depends on the stability of the track and the guides captured by the track.
Essentially the track should be able to capture the guides; but also allow for release without dismantling the entire installation. Without knowing at all the method of install; the price point/quality; of the product; or the type of track and guides; I can't see how we can offer much more than personal opinion.
Obviously the pivot point must be secure; and in most cases you have no choice in that. The guides attached to the top of the door should be installed securely as well. The track; even if not square to the opening would still allow free sliding; if in fact the track holds the guides properly and adequately.
