Can i use a grinder to cut a thick piece of metal in half nicely??
go to your local welding supply store or even places like hopme depot and ask for an .045 cutting disk for a 4.5" grinder. Buy a few of them if you are planning on cutting much. They are pretty cheap $1-2. hold the cutting disk straight on edge and apply little pressure and it will cut through the metal very smoothly even on 1" material just takes more disks. I use them everyday and have never had one "burn up" a grinder. just take your time and you will have a very clean cut. only other thing is make sure you use some type of mask to filter out the fiberglass particles that the disk is made up of. be careful and take your time
