Ensure that the Barrel is Clear Before Shooting
Always make sure before loading the gun that the action be opened and checked for ammo in both chamber and magazine. Also make sure that there are no obstructions within the barrel itself as well. Any foreign material, no matter how small, can and will cause irregularities in pressure within the mechanism which would then explode the barrel. The resulting explosion may injure both the shooter and bystanders in the area. When performing maintenance on the gun, make sure that the bore is free of any blockage by using a cleaning rod prior to shooting. If at any time the gun feels different in terms of handling and performance, stop shooting immediately and thoroughly inspect all parts of the gun.
Using inappropriate ammunition (e.g., putting a smaller gauge/caliber cartridge in an incompatible gun) can cause the smaller cartridge to obstruct the bore and burst the barrel when the next bullet is fired. Always make it a habit to inspect the ammo before loading into the gun.
Maintain the Firearm and Avoid any Alterations and Modifications not done by Professionals
All guns are designed and manufactured by experts and are made to function as is. By applying any changes or alterations to the firearm the warranty becomes void and its performance becomes unreliable and dangerous at the very least. Refrain from endangering yourself and others by making any unnecessary changes and alterations without proper qualification. Leave it to the professionals to repair and modify the firearm.
Over time the gun will wear down after prolonged use. This is why periodic inspection and maintenance is required to prevent any unforeseen consequences such as malfunction and misfires which can injure others and the gun user. Refer to the firearm’s manufacturer to determine the appropriate servicing.
Familiarize Yourself with Your Gun and its Features and Functions
All guns are made unique, even among those belonging to the same model/series. Therefore each gun has its own method of handling and maintenance. Always make sure that you are fully familiar with the specific type of firearm you are using. Remember the basics in safe gun handling, loading/unloading and transport.
Always refer to the gun’s own manual when looking for instructions on how to handle the firearm. In case of a lost manual/booklet, contact the gun’s manufacturer for a free replacement copy.
Ownership of a gun is a lifelong dedication to responsible usage and handling of the firearm. Always practice the basics in gun safety and continually familiarize yourself with them and the firearm itself. Do not handle, much less shoot, a gun without fully understanding its features and function. It is better to err on the side of safety than risk the lives of others and that of your own with the assumption that the firearm is perfect.
