Memory Improvement: Association of Peg Words

A good technique to memorize a list in a specific sequence is the peg word system. Firstly, you need to remember a list of peg words, and there are two major ways to do this. Lets take a view of both these methods and then you can make your choice on which to use, or you can use your imagination and use both.

 

The first method is simple and easy to use. All you have to do is memorize the words that rhyme with numbers 0 to 10.

2. Shoe

3. Tree

4. Door

5. Hive

6. Sticks

7. Heaven

8. Gate

9. Line

10. Ben

 

After 11, it does become difficult to rhyme. But there is a way to expand the system. For example, you can use the above rhymes and twist their versions. For numbers 11-19, you can picture each rhyme as burnt: so 10 would be a weirdo who burned the toast, 13 would be a black tree and so on and so forth. For 20-29, you can make words for 1 to 10 as hot, for 30 to 39, you can imagine it as cold.

 

The second method is the alphabet system, where you recall words for the numbers pegged from 0 to 99. This helps to form a relation without having to remember a difficult relation with number rhymes. Using peg words, you are sure to get the right number by using consonant and converting them to numbers.

 

The extensive the list, the more effective as you will avoid recycling, resulting in less confusion. The side effect is the long time for you to memorize the list. However, once you recall the peg words, you will be benefitted by the list permanently.

 

Below there is an example of peg words for 110 numbers below. The secret is to use a memorable word for you, and once used, avoid changing it at all cost; otherwise it will create confusion.

Is it acceptable to replace an athame?

My family is Catholic so they would be opposed to mt practicing Wicca, so if I ask them for a "ritual dagger", I'm sure they would jump the gun. I'm pretty anti-weapon myself and wouldn't believe in holding a dagger, I just get connotations of violence and that's never good in any Religious practice. I have a good condition quill with a sharp nib. Since it can be used to represent Air, could I use this as a carving tool or athame instead of a traditional athame dagger?
By jump the gun I mean they'd probably start throwing bibles at me and assuming Wicca is a "satanist" religion, like every other misinformed person I've had a conversation with on the subject. I'm glad that I can use my quill as an athame. It may sound strange but it's one of the only objects I feel connected to in my Wicca Toolbox, probably because I've had it for years. Absolutely, yes, a craft knife, an engraving stylus or a pen would be a fine substitute for an athame. After all, they are tools of craft and intellect, and therefore symbols of Air, just like the athame. You can use a wand too, whyever not. Some people do place the wand in the east.

Most definitely you should not be asking your family to supply you with an athame. You ought to accept responsibility for supplying your own tools. I myself do not possess an athame. I use a more ordinary knife, but it is set aside for ritual use only.
