Matches suffer second slump common as players curtail spending

For ones second year in a row, U.S. computer game sales posted a decline, down 5.7% to $18.6 billion this season from $19.7 billion in '09 and $21.4 billion in 2008, as per a report released Thursday by the NPD Group.
Both consoles and games took a walloping with the full year as consumers curtailed spending within the uncertain economy. Console sales fell 12.5% to $6.3 billion in fact, and software sales fell 5.6% to $9.4 billion.
"Hardware sales were down 12% in units towards the year, likely owing to no price cuts and then the continuing recession," said Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Securities. "And the decline in hardware drove the decline in software sales."
One bright spot took place a category that is sometimes forgotten -- gaming accessories, which issue included extra game controllers, dance pads or keyboards. This holiday season, however, accessories became popular, gaining 13% to $2.9 billion as Sony introduced its Move motion controller as for the
cheap ps3 controller as Microsoft began selling its Kinect controller to the cheap x box 360 elite controller.
Kinect also fueled sales for the Xbox 360 system in December, most of which came bundled using the new motion-and-voice-sensing controller. Playstation 3 sales jumped 42% to 1.86 million units in December, from 1.31 million in December 2009.
Sales of cheap wii controller, however, a break down 38% dive to just 2.36 million units in December, down from 3.81 million 2009. Sony's PS3 also declined, albeit less precipitously. It sold 1.21 million PS3s in December, down 11% from 1.36 million.
With the exception of the X box 360 elite, declining console sales will put pressure on manufacturers to less the charge, particularly for your Wii, which costs $199.99 which is rapidly losing steam, analysts said.
"The Nintendo wii console business looks increasingly for a gift purchase business, resulting in knowledge to create a decrease to be able to sustain it during non-gift-giving seasons," said John Taylor, managing director of Arcadia Investments.

We have an ordinary neighborhood hardware store near me in St. Louis that has stuff like that. You should be able to get it from Hobby People, Hobby Lobby, Hobbytown U.S.A., for less than $1.00. Do a Google search on those stores and see if you have one near you.
