How to Classically Design Your Bathroom with Hardware Knobs and Pulls
If you are choosing a new bathroom design or decor, there are a few things to look for. You don't want your bathroom to look dated in ten or fifteen years, so choose a style that won't go out of fashion anytime soon. It's important to stick with a style and feel good about it, even if you don't have the money to carry it out entirely.
1. Lighting: Cheap fluorescent bathroom lighting can be a real downer: harsh, yellow, and unflattering, you'd be much better off with the soft, white light of street light fixtures, or a few new low wattage bulbs.
2. Sink: White porcelain is always a classic style. Even if you can afford to spend on only a couple of areas in your home, nothing is as classic as a clean pedestal sink.
3. Fixtures: You don't have to buy your fixtures brand new. There are lots of used antique fixtures on the market, that are cheaper than new ones. These can help you restore your bathroom to its original character. And if you're designing a bathroom for the first time your impact will be green by recycling old fixtures.
4. Mirror: Especially if your bathroom is small, you can make it look much bigger by adding a large mirror. This allows for more light and the appearance of a wider space.
5. Tile: Old dull tile can look new again when it's contrasted with a lighter color. Glossy white paint along with white linen shower curtains and a matching linen window treatment can make an old bathroom look new again. If you can afford to re-tile, nothing is as classic as white subway tile. If you want some color, cobalt is a great option.
6. Personality: Just because a bathroom is classic, doesn't mean it has to be boring; add a personal touch wherever you can. Hang photos, maps, or pieces of art you've collected over the years.
7. Details: Hardware knobs and pulls for cabinet drawers or cupboards can make a big difference. On a budget you can balance the traditional whites with more modern (and less expensive) stainless steel Amerock cabinet knobs or Schaub hardware.
8. Luxury: A matching set of soft white towels is a great addition to any bathroom. So is a waterfall style shower head. These little items will round out your bathroom into a place where you enjoy spending time.

Woodworking: Hardware to make a knob grip a square shaft?
I want to fit a wooden knob to a square shaft. It has to grip the square shaft pretty firmly. A mortise hole will not do it. I need something like a tee nut but with a square, not threaded hole.
Can someone point me to this type of hardware?
You can drill a hole in the end of the square shaft to accept an 8-32 stud....using a drill press to drill this hole would be the best. If you can't find an 8-32 stud, cut the head off of an 8-32 screw....you would probably need a screw about an inch long. Then drill a hole in the knob to accept the remainder of the 8-32 stud (using a drill press and a vise to hold the knob would be your best bet), then drill a hole to hold an 8-32 nut, using the same set up you used when you drilled the stud hole. Epoxy the stud and nut into place, and let the epoxy dry completely. Then screw the knob onto your square shaft....you should be able to tighten it firmly. If your knob and shaft will allow you to use a larger fastener, then that would probably work better for you. I was presented with a similar problem when I built my work bench, and I needed to fasten a wooden ball to each end of a dowel, to make the handle for my bench vise. I used a 1/4-20 bolt (with the head cut off) and a 1/4-20 nut epoxied in place. They have held up for about 7 years now, with no problems. Hope this works for your application.
