Internal thread processing: tapping, thread forming and thread milling - HC Network Machine Tool Industry

In many areas of industrial technology, designers and technicians are faced with the task of how to structure made of detachable parts and components and can load-bearing connection? Practice shows that the use of bolts and the connection within the thread is a convenient connection method.

  Now, the internal thread of the production process is still the most complex task. The security of its process put forward higher requirements, because most of the structural components must go through a long production steps, and thread processing is often at the end of the entire production chain. Once the threads are not examined or tool breakage, can cause costly structural components scrapped or re-processing, this must be avoided. Internal thread is usually made of different materials processing. In industrial production, the use of the material ranges from rust-proof, acid-resistant soft steel or hardened steel, cast iron or aluminum to short the chip. Within individual industries?? Such as aviation and aerospace industry technology sector, also need to use special alloys (titanium, nickel) and composite materials.

Production technology is facing increasing international competition, need to improve the productivity of the entire production. At present, the enterprises can not be complacent with the security of internal thread processing, and must use a higher feed rate for cutting and processing within the thread. The machine in the internal thread processing, the main use of three kinds of processing technology: proven tapping law, no alternative method of chip and advanced thread forming thread milling method. How to select the processing method? Need to process as much as possible methods compare the advantages and disadvantages and the use restrictions. Then, from the technical and economic point of analysis should be used or not using some processing methods.

Tapping Internal thread tapping is well-known production method. Tool because it can help determine the geometry of the molding inside the thread, so the method does not need special tools. In general machine tools, production lines or modern machining center can use this processing method. In contrast, drilling or milling, is still widely used in HSS-E HSS-E-PM or tapping. If the relatively low cost tool, tapping method to achieve higher productivity, the advantages are very obvious. Now, expanding the scope of tapping the power rising. For example, blind hole thread processing limit the scope has now reached 3 × d of the cutting length; use of newly developed SprintPlus tap system can cut the thread of high strength steel. Tool used HSS-E-PM tool materials, both prominent toughness and high resistance to corrosion, wear resistance. Cutting edge materials, high heat resistance, with a special cutting edge geometry and the modern multi-layer alloy coatings, but also makes long chip to cut soft steel internal thread processing, cutting to meet some special requirements, higher the cutting speed, thus to achieve higher productivity; cut soft steel internal thread processing time, but also for dry machining (with / without MMS).

Hole thread processing is relatively simple, because in return, when the chip need not be cut. Sprint uses a specially designed tap, the cutting speed can be as high 100m/min. As the reverse rotation will produce a higher torque load (cut off the root chip), so short in chip case, VHM tap need to adopt anti-corrosion, wear-resistant materials to produce. VHM tap most suitable for processing hard materials, even the hardness up to 65HRC machining of hardened steel, is an economic processing program, tap easily broken, so as to avoid breaking the screw tap domestic demand, the trouble of removing corrosion alternatives.

As VHM tap high wear resistance, so in machining gray cast iron (GG or GGV) and corrosion resistance of silicon aluminum alloy, when stressed the need to use the VHM tap. Internal cooling medium can chip away at once, so that this tool applies to all system 1.5 × d thread depth of cut, and travel longer blind hole threads. To reduce the possibility of VHM broken tap, tap tapping when using VHM machine tools and parts needed reinforcement.
