Solar Panel Inverter and Array Sizing?
What happens if in solar pv system design, i use a module with a Impp current above the inverter nominal current ?
Hey Mars, I'm not sure your question is worded correctly. I've never heard of a, "Nominal Current," for an inverter, or most anything. Most items like inverters and such have a maximum current. Sometimes they have a maximum continuous, and a higher intermittent rating. Are you using a battery bank? If so, the amperage from the array should be wired straight to the battery, then use a separate line from the battery to the inverter. This way, the battery will always take the current from the panels, and the inverter will only draw what it needs from the battery. If you are building a utility intertie system, then the inverter again will have a maximum and minimum voltage, and either a maximum array wattage, or amperage. In this case, you will have to keep the array current below the inverter maximum, and the array voltage within the inverter limits. This is because this type of system does not have any batteries, so the inverter has to eat everything the array puts out.
If this is a bit overwhelming, then I highly recommend consulting with someone who works in the field. Panels are pretty forgiving, but it's pretty easy to damage an inverter or charge controller if it is hooked up incorrectly. You can go to an inverter manufacturers website and check out some specs on different models to get an idea what they can handle if you're still shopping for parts.
