During the transfer of the action potential,the opening of the sodium channels allow Na+ to diffuse into the axon.This causes depolarisation( - charge inside the axon decreases as the influx of +Na ions until the electrical potential inside the axon reach +45mV).Then the potassium channels will open instead of sodium channel.The K+ ions will diffuse out from the axon causes repolarisation(electrical potential reach -65mV again) .this is how the action potential transfer through the axon.

so opening of K+ channels allow the axon to repolarise( regain the electrical potential of -65mV )

2. This will affect or stop the transmission of the nerve impulse as the membrane cannot repolarise for the action potential to transmit throughout the axon.This is deadly.
