Why does it take so long for my water to get hot?
I recently moved to a 10 year old house that has a gas hot water heater. When I turn on the hot water in the bathroom which is no more than 30 feet from the hot water heater, it takes about 4 minutes running the faucet full blast for the water to start to warm. Once it's the perfect temperature there is no problem. I live on an island where water is very expensive and my basic sewer fee each month is based on the previous years water usage so having to run the water so long is costing me a fortune. I've never had this problem in any other house. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Insulate your pipes to prevent heat loss. You might want to consider a hot water recirc system or replacing the water heater with on-demand heaters at the point of use.
