Advantages Of LED Lighting

Light Emitting Diodes or LEDs are gaining attention from consumers nowadays and many LEDs products are being sold in the market. LED is a semiconductor device that converts electricity to light by using the movement of electrons. These small and solid light bulbs are extremely energy-efficient and long lasting. LEDs work differently from traditional incandescent light bulbs and these lights offer many advantages over incandescent, neon and compact fluorescent lights.

These devices are currently being used in many different applications such as residential and architectural lighting, electronic and gaming, broadcasting, industrial automation and controls, automotive, traffic and safety and transportation. Being an extremely energy efficient light, LEDs consume up to 90% less power compared to incandescent bulbs. This is a great advantage over incandescent light bulbs because it only uses a fraction of power which is good in reducing the power consumption.

Because of the low power usage of LEDs, they are gaining popularity for light sources in remote areas that are using solar panels. Consumers not only save on energy but as well as they save money from electrical bills. Though the initial cost of LEDs is higher compared to standard light bulbs however the cost can greatly be recovered in the long run. Another advantage of using LEDs is that they have a lifespan of 60,000 hours compared to 1,500 hours of incandescent bulbs. LED lights can last over 7 years with constant use before needing replacement. They last 10 times longer than fluorescent bulbs and 133 times longer than typical incandescent bulbs. They will greatly reduce the maintenance cost and lower long-term operating cost compared to traditional bulbs.

Since LEDs are solid state lighting devices which use semiconductor material instead of filament or neon gas, it is more durable for not using components such as glass and filaments. They can withstand shock, vibration and extreme temperature. Adding to its numerous advantages is its improved safety. LED lights creates no heat therefore they are cool to touch and can be left on for hours without incident or outcome if touched. They reduce the potential for safety risks such as burns and fires.

Another advantage of using LED lights is that it is environmentally friendly. It is made from non-toxic materials unlike fluorescent bulb that uses mercury that may offer danger to the environment. They are recyclable and considered green meaning earth-friendly. LED lights also come in variety of base colors such as red, green, blue and amber. This gave them an edge over incandescent light bulbs because incandescent bulbs use filters to produce colors making them inefficient.

How do i get my LED belt buckle to work?

I just bought an LED belt buckle and it does not come with very good directions and almost no diagrams. It comes with batteries but i cant figure out which way to put them in and how to get my buckle to work. i am very excited to use my new toy so if some one could help me get it working it would be greatly appreciated!!!
one part of the directions says, "Power switch is ON/OFF, the cust of the battery's seat is anode."
The belt has an on off switch but it wont turn on. the batteries are in and they only fit in one way. it has a "+" facing up on the battery. the battery is shaped like a quarter and is a CR2032 battery aparently.... (i think)

Most devices will only let you put batteries in one way (there will be little plastic tabs or something that stop the battery from touching the metal contacts if it is put in the wrong way around).

For button-cell and coin-cell type batteries, there should be a little "+" mark, usually on the flattest side. If the battery compartment is not marked and there is just a metal clip, the metal clip usually goes to the + side of the battery.

If it is physically possible to insert the battery either way and make contact, it probably doesn't hurt to have the battery in backwards -- if it doesn't work right away, put the battery in the other way around.

The buckle itslef probably has either a small pushbutton switch or a jiggle switch to get it going. If it is a pushbutton, just press it. The minimum would be press-on, press-off, but it may have multiple blinking modes so try pressing the button several times.

If it is a jiggle-switch type unit with no on/off button, it will start blinking when you give it a good shake or a sharp tap, and will keep blinking for a given time from the most recent tap/shake (so that as long as you are using it it will keep blinking, but when you put it away it will stop).

=== EDIT ===

Hmm... if the battery only goes in one way, it's in, the ON/OFF switch moves, but the buckle does not light up, then I suspect it may have a defective ON/OFF switch.

It's a silly question but are you sure the battery is new and good? Sometimes the really cheap batteries shipped with products don't last as long as they should.

Also the answerer below me has a really good point -- if it came with a battery already installed but that battery seems to not work, check for a thin plastic strip that is designed to prevent the thing from turning on until the strip is pulled out. Sometimes when these are pulled out they tear, leaving a bit behind that stops the battery from touching the contacts.

You said "batteries" (plural) -- do they go in side by side or do they go in stacked one on top of each other like a stack of poker chips? Stacked they should always both face the same way. Side by side they have little clips that connect the underside of one to the top or edge of the other, and this little metal clip can get bent so that it doesn't make contact -- a rare problem, but I have seen it happen.

"The cust of the battery seat is anode" -- not sure exactly what they are trying to say, but "anode" means positive (+) side of the battery for whatever help that is.
