Is anyone out there familiar with a 1950's Roper Bake Master built-in oven?
My home was built in the early 1950's and has the original cooktop and built-in oven. I am looking for any information on these appliances.
Guess I should have explained further... The oven is in perfect condition. I would love to update, however my home is in absolutely perfect 1950 condition and completely original down to every detail.
I had to turn off the gas to repair another appliance and now the pilot light on the oven will not light. I am hoping that I am just not lighting it correctly.
If I am unable to light it or repair it, I will need to completely remodel my entire kitchen as they no longer make these 18" wall ovens.
My father figured out how to light it for me! There is a small knob to the left of the clock. This knob somehow opens the thermocouple, allowing gas in. I didn't see the entire process but it appeared that the button was pushed in while the pilot was being lit below.
I'm not sure about back then, but Roper is now Sears off-brand. Maybe that would be a place to start. Otherwise try antique stores/dealers.
