The combination works, but I agree about choosing a different loader. VLocity is a great choice, but I am assuming, without sounding insulting, it is not in your budget. Consider a Viewloader eVLution II with Y-Board instead for $39.99.
As far as upgrades are concerned. Pick up a new 12" or 14" barrel. There are some very nice, accurate barrels available for less than $30.
