How to repair an electric motor with starting problem?
The motor is not rotating. The motor gets stuck to a position and vibrates. When I move it a little - manually it starts rotating. What is the problem with the motor and how to fix it?
I have tried greasing the motor - but it did not work. I have tried hard but opening the motor is pretty difficult it seems. It is the part of a filter - which gets vacuum sealed to the base unit. Still I will try it and update.
Its possible the brushes are warn out if it has lots of hours of use. If it is a larger motor (other than 1/2 - 2hp) it may have to be rewound. That's not something one can do themselves. Smaller motors are normally cheaper to replace than to rewire.
*note*- If it only happens after the motor warms up, it maybe a thermocouple. It will
look like a piece of aluminum with fins (similar to a air cooled engine). These
often have sensors attached and can cause some strange things to happen.
