Motorcycle Oil Filters
Bikers are known for a lot of different reasons, but perhaps one of the most characteristic is the tendency which they have for taking care of their bikes. A motorcycle is definitely no toy, and demands a good level of upkeeping and good treatment to remain in good conditions over the years. Any biker that knows the least thing about keeping their bike in top form knows that they need to keep their engine as lubed-up as possible with quality engine oil and a good oil filter. And when you see how well your bike runs when you actually pay sufficient attention in both of these aspects of your bike's health, you'll fully realize just how worth it they really are.
The thing with motorcycle oil filters is that they may or may not be able to be matched up with a regular auto oil filter: depending on the model of bike you have and the kind of filter it requires, there may possibly be oil filters manufactured for cars that you can take advantage of. And seeing as the production of oil filters for cars in general is superior to that of motorcycle oil filters in particular, that ends up serving the owners of motorcycles of that type quite well. All the same, whether or not the availability of your bike's specific filter type is high or not, the more important aspect to be considered would have to be quality.
As with any vehicle, you want to make sure that your bike's oil filter is achieving the highest levels of dirt trapping and dirt retention possible. It is worth mentioning that some filter mechanisms used for car oil filters may be so high-performance that they create pressure conditions that a motorcycle engine cannot tolerate, and therefore it is important to make sure that the filter you put in your bike is not in fact too efficient. In reality, the efficiency levels may be pretty much the same with a safer filter device but pressure levels would not be affected so much, suiting the motorcycle's needs better. In the end, it may be safer to just stick with oil filters specifically engineered for motorcycles, though this may not always be an option depending on the kind of bike one has and the kind of filter it demands.
In general, today's best performing oil filters (for both cars and bikes) use more than just paper fibers and include other, more microscopic fibers. Typically, the paper fibers within the filter are complemented with engineered cellulose and/or fiber glass fibers which achieve much greater levels of filtration, literally filling in spaces left open within the paper fibers. With such technology included, today's best motorcycle oil filters can achieve dirt trapping rates in excess of 99% for particles down to as little as about 15 microns, which is an incredible high standard to meet. Average filters will likely reach a rate of more or less 80-85%, while even worse rates are possible with the cheapest varieties—and to think that some people actually prefer riding without an oil filter at all!

Where is the oil filter located on a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer?
Im actually at this precise moment trying to change my oil and Im not sure where the oil filter is on this specific vehicle. Anyone?! Help!
Have you taken the screw out of the oil pan?
1. If you have taken the screw out of the oil pan and have drained the oil pan. Then you should put the screw back in.
2. Now that you have drained the oil pan look either to the righ or to the left of the oil pan. You should see the oil filter. The bottom of it is round on the side of it says Oil Filter.
3. Slowly unscrew the oil filter and let it drain.
4. Replace with a new oil filter.
5. Put your new oil in.
6. Wait about 5 mins after putting the oil and and check your oil to see if it has the right amount of oil in it. If needed add more oil.
7. Crank the vehicle and let it idle for about 15 mins.
