Painting a Ceiling
Working with your arms above your head can be hard work so decide on a roller or paint pad for fast coverage and, if you can come across the colour you want, use solid emulsion (roger paint), which makes much less mess. Dip the brush into the tin of varnish so that half the bristle area is covered, and apply it along the grain brushing out across the grain from the wet edge for even coverage. There's no pigment in varnish to disguise mistakes, so take care to brush out overlaps and brush marks. Finish by brushing along the grain again with a single smooth stroke. If more than one coat is required, lightly sand with fine abrasive paper when dry and clean with white spirit between each coat.
