Does a joiner need to cut out checks on roof trusses to make them fit?
I'm having an extension built with A Frame trusses, not standard triangle shaped trusses. The A frame is required as we are to have a vaulted or coombed ceiling. The joiner has cut out checks at the bottom of the trusses in order for the trusses to seat onto the wall plate. Is this correct?
I was told this check was called a "birdsmouth"

I was a bit puzzled by how you worded your title being a Carpenter & Joiner myself because a joiner doesn't really do that type of work a carpenter does, I know I have stated I'm a carpenter & joiner but that's the qualification I received after completing the trade course. Here in Oz you train as both but where you work is what you are, I know both can interchange but if I was having work done I'd want the carpenter to build my house and a joiner to make the windows and doors not the other way around. What also puzzled me is that most people when hearing truss roof woud not think of "birdsmouth" because it has a bottom cord which it sits on.
Yes "birdsmouth" is the correct term for checking rafters over top plates, I'd never heard of a coombed ceiling before today and did a search; very nice, they don't have a bottom cord rather a collar tie type cord, are these like Oak trusses? could you send me a picture via my email I'm very interested in building
