Contracted Painter – Commitment Is Everything
When the time comes to get your home painted make sure you get someone committed to the job, otherwise you could have a real problem on your hands. Your home is your most prized and valuable possession you can’t just trust anyone to paint it for you. You need a commitment from a professional.
Find a contracted painter to take your home paint project on. Someone who is contracted has a stake in getting the job done right. Just hiring someone out of the blue is never a good policy you want to get a professional who knows painting inside and out. They would have to be someone who wants to develop a long term relationship, so when you need them in the future you will not hesitate to give them a call. Contractors also work on referrals so that is another reason why they want your business more than just any old painter out there. What you should be interested in is their experience.
A pro will know exactly how to give you what you want. They can also advise you when you hit a wall on how to do something. When you need advice they are right there.
Using a contracted painter just makes good sense. You wouldn’t trust your Bentley to just any old mechanic right? They why mess around when it is something as important as your house? You wouldn’t and that is why you should hire the best pro you can find for your paint project. A painting professional will also be well versed in the paint market and will know what products are best for your particular situation. They may even be able to save you money on supplies since they undoubtedly have suppliers they buy in volume from. Taking your project to a contracted painter is always a win win situation.
Once you have used a contracted painter you should put them into your speed dial and use them whenever a project arises. That kind of loyalty will serve you well into the future. Contractors reward loyalty in repeat business by responding quickly and working hard to meet all your expectations. You may even save some money both in repeat customer discounts and in time. Attention pro-house painters: How do I deal with peeling paint on interior walls?
A primer was not used before applying latex interior paint on chalky walls and now the paint can be peeled off like a removable sticker in some areas but not in others and resorting to scraping off with a razor scraper. Any suggestions on how to deal with the problem areas where the paint doesn't come off so easily? (And yes, primer will be used before repainting.)
My son is a professional painter. His suggestion is to sand the walls using 80 grit sandpaper, wipe the walls down with damp rags to remove the dust then use your primer.
He suggested this happened from latex paint being used over an oil based paint without sanding prior to repainting; this happens a lot in homes that are 30+ years old as most house paint (both interior and exterior) was oil based.
