How To Prune An Apple Tree

It is important for an apple tree that the pruning process starts early in its growth. Pruning needs to continue until the tree dies. In order for the tree to thrive properly and for best fruit, regular pruning is necessary. From the standpoint of the tree, it is most effective to produce many seeds. For people growing the fruit, this is not what is best. To get fewer and bigger more sought after fruits, pruning is key. If a tree has less branches, the plant can expend more energy into fewer fruits, thus making them larger and better for eating. This allows for more light and space between fruits. Part of pruning involves removing certain branches, thinning the fruits themselves and removing some from the trees is the other part. Honeycrisp apple trees for sale are generally sold with initial pruning already finished.

It essential to prune branches to remove ones that cross each other, crowd each other, are diseased or injured, or in the way. It is best to remove branches when they are small and prune with regular frequency. Using a sharp knife or pruning saw is best. By following these guidelines, large branches will not need to be removed often, but on occasion may still need to be done.

Fruit trees are best pruned in the early spring. Cut the branch parallel to the main branch or trunk and close so that no stump is left. This way healing will happen faster. Cuts need to be clean and smooth containing no splinters or splits. Branches on the tree should be uniform in distribution with branches that are easy to pick the fruit from. Wound dressing is not essential to the tree. What counts the most is proper selection of branches and good cuts. Honeycrisp apple trees for sale are one of the best selling apple trees today. Advice for pruning/cutting back big shrubs?

We have some large shrubs (boxwoods, maybe?) in front of our house and in the back yard. The plants are nice and healthy, and we keep them trimmed and neat, but they're getting really big. (I think that the people who lived there before us never pruned the shrubs.) I want to prune them down to a more reasonable size - probably even cut them completely back. The problem is that many of the branches are too thick to cut with my shrub-trimming shears or with my pruning shears. I need a tool that can cut through branches that are about an inch and a half in diameter. Do I need to use some type of saw, or is there a gardening tool that I should use? I've just taken up gardening, so I need all the help I can get!

Thanks :-)
