Can I use a reciprocating saw (Sawzall) with a miter box instead of buying a separate miter saw?
Yes if you have a good blade and you hold the saw firmly. The problem is that if the saw is not held really firmly, yu will not get an accurate cut and you will also damage the miter box. I would use a hand saw personally. You should clamp down the miter box and wood to be cut also.
I use an electric miter saw on a stand that I built myself, I turn the table to the exact number of degrees that I want. I love it. It is fast and very accurate.
