The Hotel Style Bathroom
It's a phrase much bandied about in the bathroom industry but it can mean different things to different people, possibly depending upon which hotel they've visited! What many customers want from a so called ‘hotel style bathroom' is a bit of luxury. They aspire to a bathroom that will give them that pampered, cared for feeling that comes from thick fluffy towels neatly rolled on a towel stacker, luxury toiletries seductively stored on shiny chrome bathroom wire baskets and a voluminous bath robe hanging from a strategically placed robe hook on the door.
Many hotel bathrooms have luxury soap dispensers, with the best smelling aromatherapy type lotions and potions, huge bathroom mirrors with good lighting and always somewhere handy to keep the toothbrush. The bathroom suite almost seems incidental, but it is always pristine and white, with chrome accessories and fittings and a fabulous shower. In a hotel bathroom the décor can seem a bit bland and impersonal. Customers looking for that hotel spa style can still achieve it, while stamping their own personal touch upon the décor. Get the suite and shower right and the rest should fall into place quite easily.
There are plenty of tile designs available – just remember the essence of the look is simple opulence. Don't be afraid to add colour. The days of neutral colours everywhere are thankfully moving on. There's opportunity to add bling with mosaics or feature walls, and even more so with the accessories. Gold is increasing in popularity again, but there's still far more choice in chrome.
Wall mounted wire baskets for the bath and shower are essentials of this look. Some baskets come with deeper areas for bottles, in sizes small, medium, large or extra- large, as well as for corners, they are some of the most versatile accessories around, and with a choice of fixing plate they can be functional or elegant, or both. Towel racks and stackers usually have a shelf on top for rolled or folded towels, with a hanging rail below for the towel or towels to be used next. Place them high up to keep the eye line clear for aesthetics, or fit them above a radiator for toasty towels. Add more individual towel storage if you think you'll need it. A towel ring next to the basin, a small bar by the bath, a hook outside the shower cubicle all make for the effortless bathing experience that you get in a hotel.
If you're starting out with a plan try to have heated flooring. Under tile heating systems are brilliant for cosy toes, and can be thermostatically controlled. Heated towel rails are functional and can also be a feature in themselves – just make sure you can actually thread a towel onto the bars. Mirrors are important. Pull out shaving mirrors are useful and look extravagant! They're great for saving space in smaller bathrooms too. Illuminated and de-misting mirrors are another option you might consider. Mirrors are available in styles to match bathroom accessories, for a co-ordinated look.
Soap dispensers can be used on countertops or fixed to the wall. They're the next big thing in bathroom accessories, since we all seem to be moving away from bar soap. Some are even styled to fit exactly your favourite luxury brand bottle so you can always have it on display. Bathroom shelves are a way of personalising the look of your hotel style bathroom. Simply place some fabulous little items on the shelves – they don't need to be useful. There's some beautiful art glass around which looks great on a bathroom shelf with some moody lighting.
Add candles and gorgeous bath oils, even rose petals, and you're away! Glass of wine, good book and it will be as if you're staying in a Five star hotel every night!
