Multi-Function Power Tool Evaluation
Chicago Electric Power Tools has presently on sale a Oscillating Multifunction Power Tool. They offer 3 unique versions of this piece of equipment.
I bought model 67256 that is on the basic end of the three and I paid out 39.99 for it it's available for purchase now for 34.99. It also comes along with a 90 day warranty covering materials and workmanship.
Rockwell has the RK5106K SoniCrafter 39-Piece Variable Speed Multi-Use Kit.
This one will come with a carrying bag.
For a homeowner who occasionally does some home tasks time to time, the Chicago Electric model is great. I've had mine for a year and a half and it has done exactly just what I wanted including cutting a 48" wide shower stall in 4 pieces and I have not had any problems at all. Also the diamond cutting blade works really great. So I saved $80.00.
I'm certain the Rockwell SonicCrafter is an excellent product as well. I havn't used the Rockwell I do have several other Rockwell products but I'll save $80.00 and give up a carrying bag any day.

**Great for drywall and drop ceiling work. I bought this on sale hoping that it would help out with some drywall work and drop ceiling work we had to do. It was just the tool for the job! The plunge cut tool goes through drywall like butter. The half moon wood cutting blade is perfect for sawing down acoustical tiles without the jagged edges and the dust and mess of cutting with a knife.I can't wait to try it out on other materials!
**So far awesome! For the price and performance so far, I think this is a great tool! Time will tell, but really at this price, it is definately worth the chance it will perform! Worked great for cutting a door edge and frame for a hinge. I bought the warranty because this tool is going to get a real work out!
**Excellent Product - Well worth the money and much cheaper than the other name brand products. Product performed as promised. I can't see paying $150.00 to $200.00 for a name brand unit that will do the same thing as this one.(Posted on 2/4/11)

Fein Multimaster vs Rockwell SoniCrafter?
Since they sell these devices in different packages, price comparison is somewhat difficult. But for ease of use, applications and quality, can anyone recommend one over the other? Thank you
I don't have ether one. But from watching the TV I think the Fein Multimaster would be the better one. And this one you can change heads without a tool but the other one you do and these tools are always lost.
I know you were looking for somebody who has these but when I first saw them on TV I liked Fein Multimaster but could not justify the price. Then I saw the Rockwell SoniCrafter I did not like it. It just looks like it will burn up doing one panel in the garage door let alone doing the whole thing like he says it did. Maybe it is just the sales people but it just looked cheap and sounded even cheaper. The blade looked and little weak but again it could be just the camera editing and who was using it.
