How to get rust off battery connectors on a remote control?

Ok today i was using my dvd player remote and it was working but until i wanted to pause it and it wouldn't work so i took out the batteries and i saw either rust or battery acid on those spring things which connect the batteries. I need to know how to get the rust or battery acid off them so i can use my remote again.

Thnx

Go to Radio Shack, tell them you want the aerosol flux remover that is used to remove excess solder flux from solder connections. Also, you want an acid brush, which is a tiny wire bristle brush used also to remove excess flux. You'll need to spray on ample amounts of flux remover, then brush the springs, and probably spray some more remover on them. Depending on the amount of contamination, you may need to do this two or three times. Don't worry about getting too much spray on them. It does not hurt the electronics or the metal. Do, however, use plenty of paper under your work to absorb the excess drippage of liquid.

Once finished, place the device down for 10-15 minutes for the liquid to evaporate. You probably will not remove every trace of contamination, but enough so that it won't impede a good connection.

If your remote works with some functions, but not others, it is not the battery connection that is the problem. With battery connections, either the device works or it does not. There is no partial working.
