calculating the power required to move an object?

hi, im trying to calucalate how much force is required to push a woodworking router through a pice of mdf. i set it up and found that that it reqired a weight of 4 kg could pull the router thruogh the timber at a rate of 0.005m/s. this gives me 0.02 newtons?.

How can i work out how much power that actually is in watts?
Thank you, this seems to make alot of sense, but when i put it into practice it goes a bit wrong.

Ok. work = 0.02 x 0.1 (I cut it at 10cm). = 0.002

So. Power = 0.002 / 20 = 0.0001w to a 10cm groove?

Power, P can be found from:

P = W / t (W = work, t = time)

You need to calculate the work, which is:

W = F x d (F = force, d = distance)

You've already calculated the force, just measure the length of the cut and you'll have distance. Since you have the speed (0.005m/s) and the distance figured out, you can now calculate the time from:

d = st (s = speed)
