Need I remove the strut ? Do I need a spring compressor ?
Yes you need a spring compressor YES you need to remove the strut and NO this is most likely NOT something you should attempt at home. A spring is a very powerful force that stores massive amounts of energy and can be very unpredictable in the wrong hands.
best advice, if you absolutely MUST perform the work on your own, take the new spring and strut to a qualified shop and at least let them install the new spring onto the strut to ensure a proper repair.
not to question your abilities, but if you have to ask, you probably don'tt want to attempt it on your own.
