ents? My daughter has been diagnosed with Stage IIIC breast cancer and she has been Catscanned, and blood tested, bone scanned and ultrasounded. What checks for cancer in the body as we are concerned with the spread or mastesization of the cancer to other parts of the body? Wouldn't a whole body MRI verses just a breast MRI be more effective?
MRI affects every atom in your body. Although it is not known to be a carcinogen its use is limited so that the patient is not exposed to extra danger.
Also it isn't just the scanning that is time consuming - someone has to look at the results.
An MRI gives fantastically detailed pictures but some things show up in blood tests before they show on an MRI.
Some cancers do not show clearly on MRI but ultrasound will pick them up because of their properties.
Also Don't forget an MRI will only show what is there at the time of the scan.
