Is there a name for those japanese games where you choose options that will determine the ending/outcome...?
Most of the time they're dating-like games where you're talking to 1 or more pretty anime girls and can choose what you want to do.
There are a couple of different names for that type of game. Which one your meant to use depends on the content and the way the game is played. The most common name given to them is Visual Novel, these are the ones which are primarily based around decision making and character routes.
Another name for them is Eroge, which is a cutdown version of the term 'erotic game', and refers to a visual novel which contains 18+ material.
A similar type of game, but one that falls into its own catagory, is dating sims. They differ from visual novels because while VNs use decision making to decide the route, dating sims use a series of in game statistics that the player must do different activities/ use different items in order to boost, and its these statistics that determine the route.
Other types of games in this general genre include bishoujo games, galges, and otome games (which are basically VN's with a female central character and lots of male character routes) all of which are slightly different but still the same sort of thing. The ones that contain sexual content are also often reffered to as hentai games/H-games, though this category can also include games which are significantly different (such as the turn-based strategy game Sengoku Rance). .
