Is it possible to remove tile from wood and not break tile so it can be used again?
I am remodeling kitchen and purchased some hand painted tiles that are framed by wood all around the edges. Would like to use the tiles only or can I install the tile and wood in the grout? They will be in an upright position.
I've never done this before, but if it's going on a backsplash, you could use the tile in wood frames. Stick them up with liquid nails or whatever you want, and dont grout between the frame and the surrounding tiles. Use color-matching grout there. All grout manufactures that I know of offer acrylic caulk matching all of their grout colors.
If you don't want the wood. Carefully cut it off the wood as the others have said. If you are very good, with a very sharp chisel you could give that a shot. Your best for getting the back cleaned off enough is to use a 4in. grinder with a masonary blade. This way you can slowly remove what you want with almost no chance of breaking it, as long as you dont drop it.
