What determines if a toilet flushes with one push on the handle or not?
I have two toilets that are the same, at least the outsides are. They have slightly different working parts. One will flush fully if you push the handle down and release it at once. On the other, you have to hold the handle down until it's finished flushing. What do I need to do to get the second toilet to flush with one push? What can I install that makes that happen?
It sounds like the flapper is not being raised far enough because of too much slack in the chain.
As you push the handle down, inside the tank a lever will be raised. This handle lever may have a chain (metal or plastic) attached that is too loose. You will want to adjust this lift chain so that it hangs straight from the handle lever, with about 1/2" of slack. You can remove excess slack in the chain by hooking the chain in a different hole in the handle lever (there are usually three holes to choose from), or by removing links in the chain.
