Is it bad to plug a new xbox 360 power brick into an old console?
the brick is 175 watt output but i dont know how much the xbox takes. the xbox had a little black stopper preventing me from plugging it in, but i broke it out and turned it on, it worked but i dont want to keep it on continuously in case something bad happens. and the brick only has 14.2 amps and the xbox says 16 amps idk if thats bad either. HELP ME OUT?
Well, the brick won't burn out your Xbox 360 as it supplies less power than your Xbox 360 requires. I'm assuming your power brick is from a newer Falcon (65nm CPU) system which uses a bit less power, but not so little as it won't work with your old Xbox 360.
The new Jasper motherboard (65nm CPU and GPU) takes 12.1 amps and that power supply doesn't produce enough juice for the original Xbox (plus the original power brick would supply too much juice for the Jasper chipset), because of that the power socket has been changed so they won't fit.
