Hydraulic Cylinder, its Applications and its Special Types
A Hydraulic cylinder is a mechanical device used for moving or controlling a system. Hydraulic cylinder gives unidirectional force with the help of unidirectional stroke. Other name for hydraulic cylinder is linear hydraulic motor. Hydraulic fluid is used in hydraulic cylinder to produce pressurized linear motion and force. Hydraulic Cylinders are also referred as Hydraulic actuators, hydraulic Rams hydraulic jacks and linear hydraulic actuators. In hydraulic cylinder, hydraulic pump produce the energy and these cylinders convert this energy into a mechanical output to perform the task. Hydraulic cylinders perform as muscles for machinery.
Basically hydraulic cylinders are used in those industries where heavy machinery and engineering products are used as these machinery need heavy power. These cylinders are used in all kinds of heavy equipments and heavy vehicles such as the bulldozers, forklifts, excavators and elevators etc. In fact now day's hydraulic cylinders are very helpful in domestic applications also that perform task quickly with great convenience and safety. Single Acting Hydraulic Cylinder-It is the simple and the least expensive design of hydraulic cylinder. In this type of cylinder Hydraulic pressure is used to actuate the rod in one direction. Hydraulic fluid with pressure is pumped into the cylinder at one end only and pushes the piston in one direction, usually to extend the rod. These cylinders are used in Earth moving equipments, Mining industries, Material handling equipments, Construction industry, Cement industry and in Steel plant.
Double Acting Hydraulic Cylinder- double acting cylinder is more complicated than single acting cylinder. These are also known as unbalanced cylinders. It uses pressurized hydraulic fluid to both extend and retract the piston rod. It thus requires fluid ports at both ends of the actuator in order for the oil to be directed onto both sides of the piston. These cylinders are mainly used sin engineering applications such as in machine tools for pushing or pulling.
Telescopic Cylinder- This type of cylinder is basically designed for those applications where less area is there. The stroke of these cylinders is long. Most of the telescopic cylinders are single acting but these can be double acting also. It is also known as telescoping and multistage hydraulic cylinders. An application for telescopic cylinders is it is used to tilt the dump body on the back of a dump truck. Dump truck is used in a construction site r to empty the load of gravel. It is also used in applications such as cranes and forklifts.

Does snow/water mess up spark plugs causing cylinder misfires?
I've been really negligent at scrapping the snow off of my car (99 Plymouth Neon) hood and a few weeks ago my car wouldn't turn. It made farting/pinging sounds. I tried it again in 15 minutes and it did. Today it made those sounds and shook and the check engine light came on. I took it to Autozone and its code machine said "Cylender misfire detected-Cylinder number 2". Well, an hour later the check engine light is off. What is up with that?
More than likely you've got resistance in your distributor cap, rotor and the biggie, spark plug wires. If the plugs haven't been changed in the past three years, inspect, check the gaps and replace if necessary.
