Do It By Yourself! Terminating The Fiber Optic Wire In Your Home

For those who want to have the high-speed internet connection in your home or your office, you can install the fiber optics technology. If you use this technology, you will not only get the high-speed internet connection but also the connection which will not be interrupted by the radio frequencies or other electronic devices.

The usage of the fiber optics wire is increasing nowadays. If it was used only for the internet connection, now people use it for the television, speaker, or even home theatre. The application of the technology increases even though the main use is for the internet connection. When you want to install this technology, the biggest steps to prepare the technology are terminating the wire.

If you learn the wire termination, you can modify your network or the devices. The knowledge will also help you to find the job in the telecommunications or the technical industries.

To do that, you will need some things like the cable stripper, cable crimper, curing oven, curing holder, epoxy, fiber claver, 5-15 micron film, 3-6 micron diamond film, 5 micron aluminum oxide film, 1 micron diamond film, HX film, and the important thing is the fiber optics wire.

The first step you should do is stripping the wire's end with the cable stripper. After that you can inject the epoxy to the connector ferrule. Next, you should insert the wire to the connector wall. You have to protrude ½ inch of the wire's bare code from the ferrule front.

The next step is crimping the wire by using the cable crimper. This step will make the connection between the jacket secure and the connector. You place the wire to the curing holder. It is better for you to put the connector to face the downward. Then, you can cure the wire with the curing oven.

After that, you can cleave the fiber with the fiber cleaver as close to the ferrule tip. You have to polish the wire tip with 5-15 micron film, 3-6 micron diamond film, 5 micron aluminum oxide film, 1 micron diamond film, and the HX film. You sand down the wire's tip.

The fiber optical cables even have the higher price than the copper wire, they give you more advantages than the copper wire. To get the further information about the fiber optics wire, you can browse optical cables

How do I use the reamer, sewing hole, and wire stripper on my victorinox pocket knife?

I am new to pocket knives and just bought my first actual pocket knife. Its a medium sized Swiss Army Victorinox tinker knife. To be able to use the knife to its full potential could you guys please explain what situations I would use these extensions of the knife for. Now, obviously I know the wire stripper, well... strips wires, however could you also explain exactly how or why I would need to do that.

Thanks in advance.

The reamer has a similar function to the awl on my Swiss Army Knife (SAK). What it's used for is to punch holes through material, especially leather materials like a belt that needs an extra hole. To do this, take out the reamer tool from your knife and press it against the material, apply force on the knife/material until the reamer is pushed through, then rotate the reamer while it's still pushed through the material so that the hole can be enlarged. It's come in handy for me whenever I need to make small punctures in the materials I'm working with.

The sewing hole can be used if you're handy at sewing by pushing the string through the hole and then pushing the reamer through the cloth so that the thread can now be interwoven into it. However, I'm not a good sewer, so I've never had use for the hole in any way.

The wire stripper is used to remove the insulation (covering) from wires, which could be useful if you are an electrician or into a lot of repair work. To do this, place the wire (if it's thin enough) into the notch in the bottle opener and, while applying pressure on the wire, rotate the wire cutter to make a cut around the wire's covering (also, be sure your wire is not plugged in or carrying an electric current at the time). After that, pull the wire through and the covering should come right off if you've done it correctly.
